if blue origin is to be successful you should run it full time and he hopes you do that. well, bob smith is the ceo of blue origin, and he s running it amazingly well. he s been here only a few years. i m not taking bob s job. but i am going to spend more time on it. i m going to have the time to spend on it. so i m going to be right in there rolling up my sleeves deep in it. did you know what to expect? i mean intellectually you can know about spaceflight, but to actually go up and experience it. we went through about 2 1/2 days of training. we were prepared for basically what a nominal mission should what the experience should be like. but watching a power point and watching some videos and experiencing it are very different things. i was not prepared for what the actual g-forces felt like on liftoff and when we were accelerating. when the crew capsule separated from the booster.
actual g-forces felt like on liftoff and when we were accelerating. when the crew capsule separated from the booster. we knew what sound to expect, but that sort of jump as the springs released, and then, you know, just the experience zero-g it was remarkable. when you were all sitting there together before you entered the capsule, what did you talk about? i mean there s danger, a million things must be going around in your mind. wally kept asking what s taking so long. that s when you get to be wally, you re impatient. we re talking about it she s like there s a six minute delay, why, what s=x going on. so that was part of it. we told each other we love each other. it s emotional, too. we left this morning when we we left ,feft the house, we lef crack of dawn well, way before the crack of dawn.
around yeah. i totally agree. it feels so natural, almost like we should be doing this, and i hope that we are one of the first and let s hope that many, many more people can do this because this experience, you should share with more and more people. it is so amazing. and a special congratulations to you on becoming the youngest person to have ever flown in space. thank you. [ laughter ] you should say what you told me in the car about the g-forces. i thought that was very interesting. i was surprised. they had told us what g forces would feel like on the way up and again, it s one of those things that you hear about and
towards earth. so that, everyone in orbit at all times is weightless. whereas, on these suborbital flights, they are only weightless from the time from when they shut off their rockets, until they fall far enough for the atmosphere to sta start slowing them down. then, they begin to feel sort of g-forces of that and it s only a couple of minutes. so, these are levels of space travel, yes. and a point i made on twitter in the last couple of days is, if you take a schoolroom globe of the earth and ask where s mars? it s a mile away. where is the moon? 30 feet away. where is the international space station? it s orbiting three-eighths of an inch above the surface. where is bezos and branson? um, they are just less than an eighth of an inch above the surface of that globe. so, what matters here is no one is doing what they re doing. so i don t have a problem with it.
at blue origin s arid testing ground, the 60-foot rocket is slated to take off at 8:00 a.m. central time. command start. two, one. just as it has already in more than a dozen test flights like the one seen here, a million horsepower blast from the liquid fueled engine will start the journey. the astronauts will be strapped into a ring of futuristic space seats about a third of the capsule is made of windows. and the rocket will steadily rotate, changing the view. riding will be their only job. it s an autonomous vehicle. it s been designed so the customers, the astronauts themselves can experience the flight. over the first two minutes, their speed will literally rocket to more than 2,000 miles an hour. g-forces will intensify until each person feels as if they weigh three times as much as normal, but that won t last. at 2:45, the booster engine will
