According to information from the state water plan, Texas could see water shortages by the year of 2050.

Waco is starting 2024 with flowing streams, green winter grass and Lake Waco full for the first January in three years. But drought is lingering elsewhere in the region.

Brazos River Authority Water Services Manager Aaron Abel told 6 News when there's a severe drought, heavy rainfall usually follows.

Some lake levels are rising, but even though we’ve seen some rain, the Brazos River Authority said that doesn’t mean the drought is over.

Stillhouse Hollow Lake is dropping by about an inch every day, and is just a few days away from being the lowest it has ever been.

"If you look over the last 10 or 15 years, we've really seen kind of a swing back and forth between droughts and floods," Brazos River Authority told 25 News.
