Driver Appreciation Day on March 18 OCCK Transportation is encouraging community members to celebrate “Transit Driver Appreciation Day” Flashing lights from a bus can be seen early in the morning as a bus driver picks up children to go to school or they can be seen late at night transporting community members around Salina on the CityGo bus. OCCK Transportation is encouraging community members to celebrate “Transit Driver Appreciation Day” on Thursday, March 18. OCCK transportation currently has 46 drivers and is looking to hire more. It was almost a year ago this month that Durham School bus drivers gathered in 17 buses and a caravan to collect riders around Salina one last time. Schools did not resume in-person learning after spring break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Salina Family YMCA and KWU teaming up

Salina Family YMCA and KWU teaming up Two organizations in Salina that both started in 1886 are teaming up together to strengthen their staff, students and community members. Kansas Wesleyan University president/CEO Matt Thompson and Salina Family YMCA announced the partnership between the organizations who will share a strength and conditioning coach, two graduate assistants to help run the Y sports programs and all KWU students and staff will have a free membership the YMCA starting April 1. The announcement was made in Mabee Arena to about 25 faculty and staff members who cheered after hearing the news during a news conference on Monday.

McPherson College C.A.R.S Club car show gets green light McPHERSON  The McPherson College C.A.R.S. Club has announced it will host its annual car show on Saturday, May 1, at the campus. The student-run event has been held each year since 1999, other than last year’s event that was canceled because of the pandemic. The event will be open to the public; however, vehicle registration will be limited to current students, faculty and staff, and alumni.  “Traditionally, this is something our students and our friends in the car community look forward to each year,” Chris Paulsen, faculty advisor of the event, said in a news release. “We are happy that we can host a scaled-back version this year and look forward to seeing some of our favorite cars on display.”
