Two new programs provide $9 billion to help people access residential energy-efficiency upgrades and cost-saving electric appliances.

With the price of heating oil higher than normal, Program Director for Community Services Judy Frost at WMCA says they are prepared to help their clients get through the winter in spite of setbacks and high demand.

The funding is through the Department of Health and Human Services’ Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Concerns are rising that supply shortages and soaring prices will leave families in the cold this winter, particularly in New England, which is more reliant on heating oil than other parts of the country.
