Homelessness is at an all-time high in the U.S., and city leaders & community groups in Little Rock are working to help people who are unhoused in the capital city stay safe while growing housing options.

During one night in January, a 10-year low of 773 homeless people were accounted for in Central Arkansas, according to the Central Arkansas Team Care for the Homeless (CATCH).

A third wave of winter weather, mostly freezing rain, was beginning to hit parts of Arkansas on Wednesday evening and was expected to continue this morning, the National Weather Service said.

On a single day in January of this year, Arkansas recorded 2,459 homeless people in the state, a 3.9% increase from 2020.

City and state workers were preparing Tuesday for an Arctic front that is expected to hit Arkansas this week.

Last month, the Arkansas Department of Transportation began an operation aimed at clearing homeless people and panhandlers from numerous Little Rock-area intersections as part of general upkeep.
