Planning is underway to replace the Abbot Pass Hut, a mountain refuge that stood for close to a century along the Alberta-B.C. border.

The Abbot Pass Hut sat along the border of Alberta and B.C. until it was torn down last year due to safety concerns. Now, several groups have indicated their interest in replacing it with a brand new hut.

The storied stone hut at Abbot Pass was built by Swiss mountain guides brought in by the CPR to help build tourism in the Canadian Rockies.
