Boeing has eaten more than $2.4 billion in losses on the program, according to a company spokesperson.

“We’re investing,” says Ted Colbert, outlining company plans on the eve of Farnborough Air Show.

The major driver of the delay is the bankruptcy of GDC Technics, Boeing’s original subcontractor for the VC-25B’s interiors, and the hiring of a new interior supplier, said Andrew Hunter, the Air Force’s assistant secretary for acquisition, technology and logistics.

The company has lost billions of dollars and the pandemic is making things worse.

"Air Force One, I'm just going to call a very unique moment, a very unique negotiation, a very unique set of risks that Boeing probably shouldn't have taken," Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun said. "But we are where we are, and we're going to deliver great airplanes. And we're going to recognize the costs associated with it."

Two sources with knowledge of the program told Breaking Defense that Boeing now projects the VC-25B program will run 17 months behind schedule.
