A women’s basketball player at Grambling State University in Louisiana is accusing the Indianapolis-based NCAA of discriminating against historically Black colleges and universities in a federal lawsuit filed Aug. 4.

A new suit filed against the NCAA has again alleged that its Academic Performance Program disproportionately penalizes student-athletes at historically Black colleges and universities, with a current HBCU student claiming that the association has "a long history of discriminating against Black student-athletes" through the implementation of "its so-called academic reforms."

The NCAA has asked an Indiana federal judge to exclude the testimony of an expert for former HBCU athletes suing for racial discrimination, calling his analysis of the racial disparities in the NCAA's Academic Performance Program "inapplicable and irrelevant," and adding that the athletes should be denied class certification on that basis.
