Wipro's former SVP and healthcare head Mohd Haque has sought arbitration after the company moved court against him for violating non-compete covenants

They are barred from joining these companies under a non-compete clause, which is included in their Wipro contract.

The development comes at a time when tens of thousands of tech employees have been laid off across the globe amid looming recession fears. Earlier this year, the company had also terminated freshers after they failed in the internal test over poor performance.

The Indian IT tech company Infosys has fired around 600 fresher employees. Wipro reportedly also fired over 400 employees for under performance last month.

Many IT firms including Wipro and IBM have called it 'illegal' and 'unethical'. In fact, it was Wipro chairman Rishad Premji who triggered the whole debate by calling it "cheating - plain and simple".   

Cognizant has announced annual compensation for its employees after Wipro, TCS and Infosys.

On Tuesday, Tech Mahindra revealed that over the next five years, it will hire 3,000 individuals in Gujarat.

Wading into the ongoing debate on moonlighting, Jeff Maggioncalda, the CEO of Coursera, the open learning platform, tells BT that it is more important for employees to focus on their present job and do it efficiently rather than doing two things at the same time.

Salil Parekh said the company has been running a platform called Accelerate for several years now where employees can explore gig projects outside of their main projects.

Indian IT companies including Accenture Wipro, Infosys and Tech Mahindra are delaying the onboarding process of fresh graduates. Accenture reportedly confirmed hiring in April but is delaying the onboarding till 2023.
