A New York City homeless man accused of attacking a subway worker who was trying to prevent him from harassing the public has been arrested 41 times in the past, a report says.

Many call Anthony Nelson a hero, and a model employee. His union is demanding the maximum penalty for his attacker.

Despite his injuries, police say the victim was able to help hold down the suspect until officers arrived.

Anthony Nelson, 35, was sprucing up the Pelham Bay Park station, the last stop on the No. 6 line, about 9:30 a.m. Thursday when a straphanger told him that someone was bothering women outside the station, police said.
