The Lighthouse in Dublin is providing food and other services for hundreds of asylum seekers every day.

There were 48 adults accessing emergency accommodation in Wicklow in November as the numbers of homeless in the State climbed to record levels, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing.

Some asylum seekers without accommodation have gone straight from the International Protection Office to the Lighthouse cafe.

On a typical Tuesday night, a group of Dublin’s homeless wait patiently for the doors of a service centre to open. “A bit of warmth, food and a chat,” said one man as he made his way inside.
