Permits for a new alligator "harvest" opportunity opened Friday after the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation announced its two hunting events.

An 8-foot, 2-inch alligator was found in a Houston County, Georgia backyard during the weekend.

Two University of Florida students enjoying a picnic Tuesday near Lake Alice were joined by an unexpected guest — an alligator. The alligator came out of the water, scared the students off, sat on their picnic blanket and proceeded to eat their food, UF police said.
