Wauconda board rejects proposed change that would allow ice cream trucks to operate freely in residential areas.

While such off-road vehicles often have been seen during ice-fishing season on Bangs Lake, the Wauconda Village Board made it official late last month. It will be legal, with a few exceptions, to drive non-highway modes of transportation — golf carts, all-terrain vehicles and utility task vehicles (UTVs) — on village streets.

Voters in Lakemoor and Wauconda will get to decide whether their respective communities should have home-rule authority, allowing them to impose a local gas or sales tax.
