Many also pointed out that the cuts were only happening at schools located in Montclair’s South Side – in the 07042 ZIP code – and in the same schools that have historically been underfunded.

The Montclair Board of Education voted to cut 31 teachers and 34 paraprofessionals from its budget for the upcoming school year.

To balance a $5.5 million deficit in the budget, the Montclair school district will cut 31 teaching positions and dozens of paraprofessionals – cuts that union leaders are calling “draconian.”

The two candidates elected Tuesday will each serve a term of one year and nine months.
