Because of new restrictions on abortion, a generation of doctors will be ill-equipped to meet their patients' needs due to insufficient gynecological training, experts warn. And across the country, maternal-care deserts will likely expand, as graduating medical students and residents avoid abortion-restricted states. 

Ob/gyn programs and residents in states where abortion is banned or restricted have sought out-of-state alternatives. Will the costs and obstacles to fulfilling residency standards limit such training?

A medical resident came to Oregon because she was unable to receive required training from her own residency program, due to a statewide abortion ban.

The number of abortions per month in Oregon went up by 18% in August, after the Supreme Court’s June decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
