According to information from Lincoln County Unite for Youth, fentanyl poisoning is the No. 1 cause of death in people ages 18 to 35 in the county. There have been two confirmed fentanyl poisoning deaths in the county since November 2022.

City officials, despite holding a public meeting the night of Nov. 21, did not share the information of the resignations until a Dec. 5 meeting after a Dec. 3 post on social media brought the matter out into the open.

District 1 Commissioner Brent Teske said the commissioners wanted to hold the session after he said he received quite a few questions from voters about ballot problems and other issues.

On the county’s Elections home page, a note titled, “Attention Town of Eureka Voters” was posted alerting those receiving absentee ballots that it was incorrect.

A proposed subdivision in the Yaak may have sparked the most discussion at a Lincoln County Commissioners' meeting last week, but the recent resignations of three county employees also generated comments.

District 3 Commissioner Josh Letcher, who represents the northern part of Lincoln County, said he learned of the resignations when schools which are holding board trustee elections in May, emailed him late Friday afternoon about what the county would do.
