McCartt, long-time local businessman, dies

Amarillo businessman Joseph Robert Joe Bob McCartt died on Dec. 28, 2020, from COVID-related complications, according to an obituary published in the Globe-News. He was 73.
Born on July 2, 1947, McCartt attended Wolflin Elementary, Austin Junior High, graduated from Amarillo High School and attended both Amarillo College and West Texas State University before graduating with a Bachelor s in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi. He returned to Amarillo and began a career in commercial real estate.
McCartt is credited with contributing to the redesign and renovation of Amarillo s Center City - with the reflection noting more than three decades ago McCartt re-thought the use of the Paramount Building as office space and encouraged NewcrestImage to purchase the Fisk Building for use as a hotel - resulting in the downtown Courtyard Marriott becoming a reality and top performer.
