The sectoral/thematic funds again managed to gain investors interest as the category saw the highest inflows to the tune of Rs 4,804.69 crore in January compared to Rs 6,005.49 crore in December. Smallcap funds witnessed the second-highest inflows of Rs 3,256.98 crore.

Equity mutual funds in India saw a surge in inflows, reaching approximately ₹21,780 crores in January 2024, compared to ₹16,997 crores in December 2023. Sectoral/thematic and small-cap oriented funds were the primary contributors.

The asset base for SIP rose 3.12% in January to Rs 10.26 lakh crore. The SIP AUM was Rs 9.95 lakh crore in December. The number of SIP accounts stood at the highest ever of 791.71 lakh in January, compared to 763.65 lakh in December. The number of new SIPs registered in January also attained a new milestone, with 51.84 lakh new registrations as against 40.32 lakh in December.

The total number of SIP accounts touched 7.63 crore in December 2023, out of which, 40.3 lakh were added in one month alone. It was for the first time that 40 lakh new SIP accounts were added in a month.
