Weeks after Premier Blaine Higgs publicly indicated that it's too easy for children to get gender-affirming care in Canada, he still refuses to answer questions about the issue, even in a statement. 

Demand for gender-affirming care is becoming more common across the country. But families of youth who want this kind of care — which can range from mental health counselling to hormone replacement therapy or even just learning what treatments are available — say the wait is too long. Doctors say more physicians and nurses are keen to help and providing this care is just a matter of training.

The balancing of parental notification and the safety of LGBTQ children has been a controversial topic in New Brunswick lately. CBC News has spoken to a pediatrician and a psychologist about concerns raised by some parents who were interviewed while Policy 713 was under review.
