Just like the original Apollo missions, NASA is again using the volcanic landscapes of northern Arizona, specifically areas of Babbitt Ranches, to test equipment and the astronauts themselves.

The next generation of space cadets is back in the high country, preparing for another trip.

NASA astronauts practiced moonwalking on the San Francisco Volcanic Fields near Flagstaff over the past week. The training is for the Artemis III mission, which aims to land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon.

NASA astronauts headed to Arizona desert to rehearse moonwalks and test technology for the Artemis mission.

NASA is conducting a week-long field test in the lunar-like landscape for its astronauts to practice moonwalk scenarios for its next manned lunar mission Artemis 3. Astronauts Kate Rubins and Andre Douglas are serving as crewmembers and wearing mockup spacesuit systems as they traverse through the desert, completing a variety of technology demonstrations, hardware checkouts and Artemis science-related operations.

Being an astronaut isn't always glamorous, with years of training and research carried out on terra firma prior to a crewed mission.
