The Portage Township School Board held a special board meeting Monday to appoint a new member to fill the vacancy left by Troy Williams, who recently moved to Florida. The board interviewed three candidates, asking them each a series of questions. At the conclusion of the interviews, an executive session was held followed by nomination of the new board member, Jeff Smith.

Portage Township Schools will save more than $100,000 annually after working with Graybar Electric and the Nipsco Energy Efficiency Program to implement more efficient lighting in their schools.
