Gujarat boat tragedy: A partner of a private firm responsible for operating and maintaining a lakefront in Vadodara, where a boat capsized resulting in the death of 12 students and 2 teachers, has been apprehended in Odisha. Seven out of the 19 people named in the FIR are already in custody.

Six people have been remanded in SIT custody until January 25 in relation to the boat capsize tragedy in Vadodara. The case is being prosecuted by Advocate Hitesh Gupta on behalf of Manish Patel, the husband of the deceased schoolteacher Falguni Patel. Read more about the ongoing investigation.

Investigation gathered pace with the Vadodara police arresting six out of the 18 people booked for the death of 12 schoolchildren and two teachers in a boat accident. Private firm partners are among those held. The incident has stirred anger and grief across the state.

DCP (Crime) Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, who is a supervising officer in the case, also said: "If it is found that there was negligence on part of the civic body and its officials, they will also be booked.”
