It was original though Laura Barajas had suffered an infection caused by Vibrio, but health officials say that isn't the case.

A California woman who had an undercooked tilapia meal contracted vibrio bacteria infection, which ended up in her limbs being amputated. Read more here.

Laura Barajas bought fish from a grocery store in San Jose and cooked it herself. The next day she was admitted to a local hospital and diagnosed with Vibrio Vulnificus, a bacterial infection.

The woman had to spend more than a month in the hospital fighting for her life before having all her limbs removed in surgery.
