Sweden demonstrates a solid commitment to ensuring the safe implementation of nuclear radioactive waste and used fuel management activities, including its efforts towards establishing a deep geological facility, an International Atomic Energy Agency team of experts has concluded.

Sweden's Land and Environment Court has granted radioactive waste management company Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB an environmental permit to extend the SFR final repository for low and intermediate-level waste at Forsmark.

According to the latest estimate submitted by Sweden's radioactive waste management company Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB, the remaining costs for the country's radioactive waste programme total SEK124.1 billion (USD11.13 billion). The previous estimate, submitted in 2019, was SEK110.0 billion.
