Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Thursday filed a cyber libel suit against former Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi over a statement posted on the department's website on February 4, 2022.

The Senate resolution recommending charges against Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and other officials over the approval of the Udenna-Chevron Malampaya Consortium shares deal was submitted to the Office of the Ombudsman.

Senators on Friday have suggested to the Ombudsman to file charges against Energy department Secretary Alfonso Cusi and others for approving the allegedly anomalous share sale deal in the Malampaya gas field.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Friday said he was ready to face charges after a Senate resolution recommending the filing of lawsuits against him and other officials reached the Office of the Ombudsman.

Sen. Win Gatchalian said Wednesday that DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi must resign from his post and face charges, after pointing out that the department allegedly "railroaded" the approval of share sales in the Malamapaya gas field.

In his privilege speech, Gatchalian said Cusi and key officials of the DOE are “criminally and administratively liable for graft, gross neglect of duty, and grave misconduct and should immediately resign from their posts,” “for railroading the approval of the sale of participating interest of Chevron in Malampaya gas field.”
