The Sydney removalists who brought the Delta strain of COVID-19 into Victoria and sparked a state-wide lockdown will not be charged for any breaches of health orders. The Department of Health s compliance and enforcement team yesterday completed its investigation into the three removalists, probing whether they had breached the Public Health and Wellbeing Act and the Chief Health Officer s directions. The department found the removalists entered Victoria on a valid permit - the Specified Worker (Low Workplace Interaction) permit - which is designed for commercial freight workers. Victoria’s COVID-19 commander Jeroen Weimar said there were 10 new COVID-19 cases recorded on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases to 188. All 10 had been isolating. Residents of the Ariele Apartment complex in Maribyrnong tomorrow end their 14-day quarantine after being exposed to Sydney removalists who spread the Delta variant and sparked the lockdown. Mr Weimar said the trio who entered Victoria on July 8 would not be charged. “Department of Health (DH) completed its investigation yesterday and [Victoria Police] reviewed the file yesterday and overnight and have confirmed that no further action will be taken,” he said.

Lockdown extended | Maribyrnong & Hobsons Bay

Goya Dmytryshchak Thirteen new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 were recorded today as Victoria’s lockdown was extended by seven days. With the total number of active cases in Victoria at 85, the lockdown is set to end next Tuesday at 11.59pm. Eighteen thousand primary close contacts of those cases had been identified, Victoria’s COVID commander Jeroen Weimar said. Fourteen cases have been linked to the MCG, including nine who attended the Carlton-Geelong match on Saturday, July 10. Residents of the Ariele Apartment complex in Maribyrnong tomorrow enter the second week of their 14-day quarantine after being exposed to COVID-positive removalists from Sydney.
