LankaWeb – 593 cases of coronavirus infections identified within the day so far

Posted on December 26th, 2020 Courtesy Adaderana Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva says that another 93 persons have tested positive for Covid-19. Accordingly, a total of 593 cases of coronavirus infections have been identified within the day so far. Accordingly, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Sri Lanka has risen to 49,375 in total. Meanwhile, the number of total recoveries climbed to 32,051 as 712 patients were discharged from hospitals today (26) after complete recovery. Currently, a total of 8,138 infected patients are being treated at hospitals. Daily Mirror - Flight arrives from virus-hit UK

A scheduled repatriation flight arrived from the virus-hit United Kingdom on Wednesday evening. The UK has been hit by a new coronavirus variant named VUI202012/01 as a result of which Sri Lanka had this week suspended flights from the UK. However, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that the Srilankan Airlines flight was on its way to the UK at the time a decision was taken to suspend arrivals from the UK. He said that the flight had arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday evening and both the passengers and crew were sent for quarantine. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that under normal circumstances passengers and crew of repatriation flights are quarantined separately.

Festive warning to hotels, restaurants 25 December 2020 01:23 am - 1     Public Health inspectors have warned that legal action will be taken against hotels and restaurants holding festive events, especially parties, in violation of the quarantine law. Social media posts have indicted some events had already been held while others indicate such events were to be held last night and on New Year’s Eve. PHI Association Secretary M. Baalasooriya said that indoor and outdoor parties are banned. He said that legal action will be taken on hotels and restaurants organising or permitting such events, which could also lead to the licence being cancelled.

Posted on December 24th, 2020 Courtesy Adaderana Avissawella, Kosgama and Ruwanwella police areas have been declared as isolated areas with immediate effect, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said. Meanwhile a decision had been taken to isolate Abhayapura Grama Niladari division and Jinna Nagar area in Trincomalee from 6.00 a.m. this morning (24). Isolation status of ‘Laksanda Sevana’ in Wellampitiya had been lifted with effect from 6.00 am today.
