A psychologist said a Cedar Rapids mam who tried to kill his ex-wife didn’t have the mental capacity to waive his rights when he confessed to police investigators.

A Cedar Rapids man accused of trying to kill his wife by stabbing her multiple times in 2021 wants to keep his confession out of trial. His lawyers argue he had an “existing” mental condition and was in a psychotic state. Prosecution argues he understood all the questions and led the discussion during the interrogation.

A Marion man was convicted for a second time for killing his girlfriend and concealing her body in a roll of carpet. Greg Davis waived a jury trial and a judge found him guilty of a lesser charge, second-degree murder.

Gary Lee Pillman, 71, was charged with first-degree murder following the November 2019 stabbing death of his wife, Betty Jean Pillman.
