Art Prevails News Today

On October 1, 1973, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County opened its doors with the traditional community-based mentoring program, which matches an adult with a child.Since that day, the organization has served 50,000 young people.

The first Earth Day took place in 1970 and it went global in 1990. Since then, millions of people have used the holiday to bring awareness to environmental issues.

Darius Daughtry is the founder of Art Prevails Project, an organization that aims to strengthen South Florida's communities through literature and the performing arts. He joins WLRN's Carlos Frías ahead of this weekend's Our Voices: Festival of Words in Fort Lauderdale to talk about how art is healing.
