In July, Rudo Mathivha handed in her notice at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, ending a celebrated 25-year stint as head of the ICU.

A young Tsolo-born medical doctor who was recently awarded an Asher Dubb medal for performing outstandingly in her exams to qualify as a specialist physician hopes to bring haematology services to the former Transkei region one day. Lindokuhle Nwabisa Goqwana, 32, from Cingco village, who is doing a fellowship in clinical haematology with the Zakithi Nkosi Foundation, received the award on Tuesday from the Colleges of Medicine of SA (CMSA).
