(Brandon Victor / Noozhawk photo) By Brandon Victor, Noozhawk Contributing Writer May 10, 2021 | 9:00 p.m. Many coaches at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s Press Luncheon were eager to highlight the dedication of their student-athletes this season — especially those who are playing multiple sports at the same time. “I see first hand the things these kids have to go through everyday, and it really is a testament to the athletes and the sacrifices that they’re making for their teams,” said Dos Pueblos softball coach Mike Gerken. “I hope all coaches recognize the sacrifices that all of your two-sport athletes are going through right now.”

San Marcos Swimmers Dominate Santa Barbara

Madi Sparre won the 200 and 500 freestyle for the Royals. For the San Marcos boys, Steelman won the 200 IM in 2:04.01 and the 100 butterfly in 55.02. The Royals won first and second in the 200 IM relay, and swept the 200 free relay. “We have been training very hard for the past few weeks to get where we are, and the boys have shown a lot of resilience through it all,” Royals boys coach Peera Sukavivatanachai said. “Hopefully with a little rest over the next few days we should see some big improvements.” Roth also sounded a positive note for the Royals girls. “The girls are starting to find their niche and I think in the coming weeks we have the ability to be a whole new team. The girls are working really hard and have positioned themselves for some great end of the season results.”

Welcome to Noozhawk Asks, a new feature in which you ask the questions, you help decide what Noozhawk investigates, and you work with us to find the answers. Here’s how it works: You share your questions with us in the nearby box. In some cases, we may work with you to find the answers. In others, we may ask you to vote on your top choices to help us narrow the scope. And we’ll be regularly asking you for your feedback on a specific issue or topic. We also expect to work together with the reader who asked the winning questions to find the answer together. Noozhawk’s objective is to come at questions from a place of curiosity and openness, and we believe a transparent collaboration is the key to achieve it.
