Auli’i Mitchell is a Big Island native and the Kumu Hula of Halau o Kahiwahiwa. Mitchell says the ritual dance of carved images is a critically endangered Hawaiian practice, and he’s working to preserve and revive the nearly lost tradition.

The program will include featured speakers and performers:
-Mary Kim, EWC alumna (2020) (painter from S. Korea) who recently gifted 3 beautiful paintings to the EWC; 2 of her works will be featured as the centerpiece in the upcoming exhibition.
-Hae In Lee, current EWC student, presenting a pre-recorded Korean Gayageum (zither) music performance in EWC Gallery in front of Mary Kim s paintings; & talk about experience participating in recent EWC Arts outreach programs
-Meleanna Meyer, EWC alumna (1990s) (Hawaiian artist, Honolulu-based) who is working with us on the upcoming community arts project, The KUMU Project and who also has a work from the Permanent Collection featured in the upcoming exhibition.
