Volleyball is practically in Marilu Pally’s DNA. Now a sophomore with Cal’s beach volleyball program – the No. 7-ranked NCAA Division I team in the country – the Santa Cruz High grad is the daughter of two elite volleyball players from France: Her father Laurent played professionally, while her mother Veronique Baudon suited up for the French junior national team.

A rough start to the weekend was defined by two expected, but still resounding, losses.

This weekend will serve as a great opportunity to assess Cal’s strengths and weaknesses that can potentially define the 2023 season.

Cal’s hopes for a perfect weekend were quickly stymied with an unfortunate injury and a little lack of chemistry, but the Bears survived the weekend and limited their losses to two.

The Bears hit the sands against Davis and SJSU this Saturday with a chance to begin the season 5-1.

Opening weekend turned out to be an impressive one. They put away teams that they should have put away and did not let their loss shake their confidence.
