SIR – I’ve been asked to sign a petition to strip Paula Vennells, the former chief executive of the Post Office, of her CBE (report, January 6). What I fail to understand is why she was honoured in the first place. It must have been obvious that the Post Office’s handling of the Horizon scandal was grossly incompetent at the highest level. SIR – I firmly believe that the undeniable problems of the NHS will not be fixed by simply providing more money.

SIR – The problem with Jeremy Hunt’s “biggest business tax cut in modern British history” is that it follows the biggest rise in corporation tax since 1974, presided over by this Government. What’s more, given the “cut” is simply to make the currently temporary measure of full expensing permanent from 2026, it is unlikely Mr Hunt will be in a position to keep his promise, given the polls.

SIR – The main reason for the lack of fresh food in our shops (Letters, February 26) is that the supermarkets are not prepared to pay British farmers a fair price for their produce.

SIR – No one who has worked in the NHS will be surprised at General Sir Gordon Messenger’s remarks on how it has drifted into its present lamentable situation (report, February 6).
