The University of Kentucky broke ground today on the new UK Cancer and Advanced Ambulatory Building, located across from UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital on South Limestone. The University of Kentucky will soon begin a major construction project to build an eight-story, 550,000-square-foot cancer and advanced ambulatory facility that will also call for the reconfiguration of Elizabeth Street, a street that parallels South Limestone in that area. The overall plan includes a complete replacement of Elizabeth Street to ultimately provide a major thoroughfare to better serve and improve traffic flow.

Beginning her career at UK in 1991, St. Clair’s research has had a profound impact on understanding the role of free radicals in cancer, with her groundbreaking studies elevating the field of redox biology to a critical area of cancer research.

There are only 55 NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country, and Markey is the first and only one in Kentucky.
