Property to pass the senate. just a matter of getting through the logistical hurdles. does it have support to pass the house. the house has passed this bill but paired it with -- for if you have a permit to carry, in a state, you would take that over state lines to another state that allows concealed carry. democrats in the senate, that is a nonstarter. for democrats in the house, that is a nonstarter. so as long as that still has to be paired with even the small bore fix nix background bill, th...

Democrats in the senate, that is a nonstarter. so as long as that still has to be paired with even the small bore fix nix background bill, there are problems there. it has put a point on this. speaking to a democratic snore who is very strong on the gun rights issue very strong on trying to push forward some type of gun restrictions and i asked him plainly, do you think anything is going to happen right now. he looked at me and shook his head. he said no. he understands where things are right no...

And you freeze. were talking about this again but at another level. >> very quickly the president says he wants better background checks, including at gun shows where background checks are not very significant at all? >> thats a very popular idea. most americans support that. its tough, though. they tried to do this in the senate after newtown when toddlers were killed. but theyre talking about a background bill that just reinforces existing laws, doesnt even go that far. so even though its popu...

Dick in the deer stand? and what they were telling me the last few days is theyre ready to do background checks. they asked me why the bump stock bill didnt pass. they know we need to make changes and i think these students are going to lead the way and were going to finally see some action. and when i had those sandy hook parents in hi office and they told their stories and you think about the courage they had to come forward on a simple background bill and then the congress didnt have the cour...

>> look, its strategic. its strategic and hes saying what they believe. not that they think people will make lists and socialism is going to take them to the country, but that its a slippery slope or its a camels nose under the tent or allowing anything to move in the direction that would regulate or restrict gun rights is just the start of a domino effect. the most structured thing covering gun debates i think i ever witnessed was shortly after sandy hook i went into a meeting with the assumpti...

Legislation to restrain him is another. >> theres also the gun violence issue which you have been more active on than most senators. we have had 896 americans killed by guns since what happened in las vegas. what is the next step or any possible step legislatively on this? >> well, we introduced today a new universal background bill supported by 90% of the american. really no issue out there today in which you have 9 out of 10 americans who want something to happen and congress wont do it. but i...

Away from trump rhetorically actually going to do something with their vote? are they going to support the health care reform bill that was worked out between republicans and democrats that takes away from trump the power to destroy the health care system? are they going to work to pass an authorization of military force in the piece which checks the presidents war making powers? talking about how reckless is president is one thing passing legislation to restrain him is another. >> theres also t...

Background check. >> he was shot during the 2007 shooting. he joins me here. collin, good to see you here. good to see you as healthy as you are. what next? how do you get the white house and congress to take this more seriously than they have? >> yesterday we had a big rally right in front of the capital where we brought together victims of gun violence, their family members, survivor, faith leaders, members of the law enforcement community, gun owners, probably everyone, democrats, independent...

But somehow the people in charge of the government and the security clearance couldnt track it down. >> and ill give you one last example of government incompetence. we just learned this afternoon that the fax machine at the pentagon that is supposed to be receiving freedom of information requests has been broken for two weeks, and they think they might be able to get it fixed in october or november. now a government which cant find a fax machine in six weeks is a government incapable of being e...
