New Milford Police say a man killed his own mother. They say Eric Meagan then reported himself to police on Monday. Meagan has now been arrested and he is charged with murder after being taken into custody yesterday. Police said it all started when they received a call at 8:25am Monday from a man who said he had just killed his mother next to the Still River near Harrybrooke Park. Newtown Pride FC has won the inaugural edition of The Soccer Tournament with a 2-0 victory over SLC FC in the championship game. That means they bring home the $1 million prize after the four-day tournament held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The tournament featured amateur domestic teams and teams representing well-known clubs from around the world. Newtown Pride FC is based in Sandy Hook, and they usually play in the Connecticut Soccer League.

Three people died in car crashes on state highways over Memorial Day weekend. Connecticut State Police released statistics that show they responded to 246 crashes statewide over the long holiday weekend, with two involving serious injuries and three reported fatalities. In Bethel, an affordable housing proposal involving Whitney Road has been killed over concerns about dust. Some new information has been released surrounding a boat crash that happened last week on Candlewood Lake that resulted in two people being taken to the hospital.
