Ridgefield Restaurant Week is still happening, and it runs until Sunday. About two dozen restaurants are participating. The event is being presented by the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Chefs Warehouse and Fairfield County Bank. Participating restaurants are offering special fixed-price menus. This week in February was chosen because historically it is a slow time for restaurants, and the hope is it will boost revenue and tourism. Hurry, it ends this Sunday. The state Office of Health Strategy ruled on Monday, that Sharon Hospital must keep its maternity unit open despite current costs and staffing challenges. Sharon Hospital’s owners, Danbury-based Nuvance Health, warned that it may well be impossible to do. Nuvance issued a statement on Tuesday in which it warned that maintaining a maternity unit in the rural Litchfield County town was unsustainable as the health system continues to struggle financially. A spokesperson said that years of low volume, coupled with increasing difficulty finding physicians and nurses to staff the unit, has made the situation tenuous. The health system said now they will be considering all options available as they reassess a path forward.

A head on crash Monday in Brookfield resulted in two people being rushed to the hospital. It happened just after 4 yesterday afternoon on Stony Hill Road… on the railroad overpass. Police say one of the drivers was trapped in their vehicle and had to be extricated. Both drivers were said to be in serious but stable condition. There has been no update on their conditions, and their names have not been released. The crash shut down the road for about one hour. The whole thing remains under investigation.

Bethel has now joined the list of Connecticut towns that are stepping up in the battle against property fraud. Property owners in Bethel are now able to take advantage of PropertyCheck — a free service that provides real time property fraud protection by alerting you anytime a land record document matching your name or address is recorded. Other towns in Connecticut that already have opted to provide the service include Danbury, New Fairfield and Wilton.
