Albertville school leaders held a public input meeting Wednesday night so that people could learn more about a proposed magnet school.

Albertville City School Board of Education members unanimously chose a new superintendent Tuesday morning.

The decision was made at a special called board meeting of the Albertville Board of Education that began at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.

“What this is, is a parental rights bill,” Rep. Chip Brown said. “It’s a bill that basically says, that as a parent, I should make the decision. Not the state.”

An Alabama bill was advanced Wednesday which would allow parents to opt out of school mask mandates. As COVID-19 case numbers fell mask requirements were largely eliminated.
