The BBC TV licence fee is set to increase by £10.50, bringing the total annual cost to £169.50, the UK Culture Secretary announced. The household payment, which funds a significant portion of the BBCs operations, had previously been frozen at £159 but was due for an increase in line with inflation next year.

Millions of discontented Britons are refusing to pay the £159 annual BBC licence fee, with figures showing compliance has fallen significantly since 2022.

A new Express.co.uk poll has shown that more than half of readers think that the BBC should be funded through advertising when the royal charter expires.
