Former Buffalo City Metro council speaker Luleka Simon-Ndzele has jumped ship to the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.The move is seen as a major boost for MK because she is a seasoned politician who spent many years in the ruling ANC, which deployed her to council.

Buffalo City Metro executive mayor Xola Pakati tendered his resignation on Monday. Pakati wrote to speaker Humphrey Maxegwana and some ANC councillors to communicate his decision. “I would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude for the supported you provided over time,” Pakati wrote.

The long-anticipated Buffalo City Metro's Dr WB Rubusana ANC regional elective conference scheduled for this weekend faces another hurdle, with threats of legal action if it does sit and elect new leadership. Despite an interim court interdict already hovering over the BCM's elective conference, the region's interim leadership is forging ahead with plans to have the much-anticipated conference this weekend, before the matter is even back in court on May 31.

The ANC's internal battle lines in Buffalo City Metro have been drawn — and a 39-year-old woman, Princess Faku, is stepping into the ring as the main contender for the mayoral crown. The rest of BCM ANC's top five candidates are party activist Amanda Ralasi, outgoing mayor Xola Pakati, veteran politician Malibongwe Mfazwe and youth activist Yomelela Tyali.
