With the end near for the smokestack at the former B.L. England power plant, residents and visitors to Cape May County will lose a longtime landmark on the shore of the Great Egg Harbor Bay.

The smokestack at the former B.L. England power plant in Upper Township will be demolished at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Visitors were given a chance Saturday to deface the former B.L. England plants trademark smokestack before the tower comes crumbling down Thursday.

The development group that owns the former B.L. England power plant plans to demolish the last major piece of it, a smokestack that stands more than 400 feet tall. But first, the group has invited the community to a send-off Oct. 21, with a chance to decorate the tower with spray paint and grab a selfie.
