New Delhi: The Delhi HC has refused to allow the offering of prayers during Ramzan and on Eid at the demolished 'Akhoondji mosque'

The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to allow the offering of prayers during the month of Ramzan and on Eid at the demolished 'Akhoondji mosque' site in Mehrauli.

The 'Akhoondji mosque', believed to be over 600 years old, as well as the Behrul Uloom madrasa there were declared as illegal structures in Sanjay Van and demolished by the DDA on January 30.

Delhi HC refused to permit prayers at recently demolished Akhoondji mosque and the nearby graveyard in Mehrauli on occasion of Shab-e-Barat

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) demolished a 600-year old Akhoondji Masjid in Mehrauli, which has been called an illegal construction. The Delhi High Court has ordered the DDA to maintain status quo with respect to the land where the Akhoondji Masjid was located.

On January 30, the Akhondji mosque in the city’s Mehrauli area was bulldozed by the urban development body.

DDA's counsel had submitted that the demolition action was taken pursuant to the “recommendations of the Religious Committee”.
