Astronomers have claimed that the explosion is the brightest burst of X-ray and gamma-ray energies since human civilisation began.

The mysterious bright light spotted in February was a distant star being "squeezed like a toothpaste tube" by a colossal black hole, according to a study. Astronomers working at the [...]

Astronomers observed a rare cosmic explosion that resulted from the collision of stars within a black hole that provides crucial information about gamma-ray bursts.

A flash of powerful light from a galaxy just over a billion light-years away is upending our understanding of the most powerful explosions in the Universe.

Scientists describe the minute-long blast as "remarkable".

On Dec. 11, 2021, NASAs Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory and Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope detected a blast of high-energy light from the outskirts of a galaxy around 1 billion light-years away. The event has rattled scientists understanding of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), the most powerful events in the universe.

The 50-second gamma-ray burst is the first that unambiguously breaks the rule that long bursts usually come from supernovas.

An incredibly bright flash that appeared in the night sky in February came from a black hole pointing straight at Earth, astronomers have said.

Its 8.5 billion light years away, so we dont exactly have a front-row seat, but we did catch the start ...

The bright light was the result of a rare cosmic occurrence known as a tidal disruption event
