The community of Scrivner, located a few miles southeast of Russellville, is now little more than a scattering of buildings along a stretch of country road. But for years, it was a well-known destination because of a small general store that provided a range of necessities and other unique items for area residents.

Time has carried away memories of many small communities throughout Mid-Missouri, erasing evidence of bustling settlements built upon the dreams of foresighted men and women.

Only days after turning 8 years old in 1892, Martin Luther Scrivner lost his father, a Union veteran of the Civil War.
