>> shepard: on this day in 1976, the bi centennial, the concord began flights from new york to paris. it flew 1,300 miles an hour. twice the speed of sound. they werent that comfortable. the jets aid up huge amounts of fuel. in the year 2000, a concord jet crashed in take off in paris killing everybody on beard. investigators say the plane ran over a piece of metal. the concord went out of service a few years after that. the worlds fastest jet arrived in america 41 years ago today.
