recast his image. it looked leak a bill schein showing up on fox. all this fox wall street journal kind of stuff. pr. they needed to fix his image because he did not look good last week. the white house was coaching brett kavanaugh on what to do to make sure this went through. part of that sui need to figure out your testament and why people might feel as though you are unfit for the court. why did they stop him from being a whacko bird last week when he testified? i this i the president liked the fact that he was talking about he was cry something. i don t think they liked the crying. they liked the 2016 election the conversation, that this might be the revenge of the clintons. all that talk they definitely liked. john, where do they get this from, revenge of the clintons? evidence? this is the one the bit of his testimony. protesters, evidence? you know what trump, this is the same of the same piece barack obama was born in kenya,
able to take a camera off this woman. she is the most important he s not going to fire rosenstein on thursday. no, he s not. it s going to be impossible to take the eyes of the camera off of her. by the way, scheduling it on friday just really makes the point of women that he s not taking any of this seriously. peter, it looks like the orchestration of this is being done by sean hannity told him not to fire rosenstein and bill schein and everything. this is a fox-run presidency this week. your thoughts? you re in new york. you cover this thing. well, yeah it s a media circus, but i wonder if it s not a precede yeah production. yeah, no question that he relies on the advice of some of these folks at fox news more than even some people on his own staff. sean hannity has a regular channel into the president. the president respects him. listens to him. i think sean hannity felt, as some of the other fox people did, that it would not be a good job to fire rosenstein right
means they don t want to testify. judge kavanaugh is ready to go monday, thursday. take it or leave it. first off he sounds like he s judge kavanaugh s lawyer. then take it or leave it. he has a team leading him. bill schein is on his team. so to say that you want to get yourself prepared within a week to come before this body and testify is ridiculous and unheard of. it s crazy that we re having the same like she has less due process i think than anita hill was afforded almost 30 years ago. exactly. it s ridiculous they re making that assertion. here come all the false equivalencies. what about the the what about ism. i agree with your point about carmella harris. when carmella harris did question kavanaugh, the headline was she was attacking him.
i want to go to joan wash along with amy kramer. so, joan, you hear barbara s reporting. trying to get more on the same page. bill schein, former fox news executive, top executive, obviously. right. sort of a longtime consignificant lear consin i think it s the president s thinking but it s ratcheted up since bill schein came along. the way i think about it, erin, what bill schein and roger ailes did at fox news, they didn t depict democrats as people we merely disagree with on policy or politics or taxation, they depicted democrats as being the enemy, as being bad people, as being soft on national security. so it does strike me that this is something that the president s been doing, but to flip it into a national security concern could reflect bill schein s influence. let s make the media just as
of the united states, and this is not opinion, this is fact, he and the defense secretary send troops into harm s way to defend the nation s values, which, of course, include a free press and free speech. erin? barbara, what are you hearing about who is influencing this campaign, really, of the administration coming out more forcefully, backing the president s view that the media is the enemy of the people? this may be one of the most interesting questions right now. it has escaped no one s attention at the pentagon in positions of authority that there is a new communications chief at the white house, former fox news executive bill schein. nothing publicly pointing to him but bill schein is someone who keeps a very tight rein on the communications message, and there is a lot of questioning about whether any of this would really be happening. would the rhetoric be so hot and so difficult if bill schein didn t want it to be? erin? barbara, thank you.
