The newest social enterprise from Hartford's Forge City Works nonprofit is a grocery store, addressing the issues of food insecurity and limited food access.

A year after the city launched the Hart Lift grants to fill vacant storefronts, the program — financed by federal pandemic relief funds — has notched some early wins and has captured the attention of other towns and cities.

The federal funding is part of the FY 2022 government funding package that was signed into law in March by President Biden, officials said.
