An Easter egg dating back to 1939 will be sold at Hansons Auctioneers in Etwall, Derbyshire, next month with a guide price of £600 to £800. The egg was given to nine-year-old Sybil Cook by her uncle.

Sybil Rees (nee Cook) died in 2021 at the age of 91, but after being warned by her uncle about the looming Second World War, she closely guarded her beloved Easter egg and kept it intact for the rest of her life.

The chocolate egg was given to Sybil Cook in 1939 but with the Second World War looming, her uncle advised her to ration it.

When rationing was introduced during the Second World War, Sybil Cook decided against eating the chocolate egg.
