City gives residents tours of White Street landfill.

For years, Greensboro City Councilwoman Goldie Wells championed permanently closing the White Street Landfill, noting that, among other concerns, continuing to use the site in the predominantly Black community stifles

Greensboro residents near Bingham Park have long advocated for a full remediation of the area. City leaders are now weighing options to remove contaminated soil from the park, which was built atop a pre-regulatory landfill.

A park that was built atop a former landfill is now closed to the public until the city can fully remediate the site.

The first Lackawaxen River Sojourn has been proposed for October 2024, hosted by the Lackawaxen River Trails group.

In just one example, the parks and recreation director noted deteriorating conditions of the tennis courts at Hester Park, calling them “an embarrassment to our city.”
